A Special Reserve Police Constable (SRP) appeared before a Master of the High Court on September 17, charged with the manslaughter of his colleague, SRP Jamal Charles, on September 11.
PC Anton Phillip, 22, was charged with the offence when he appeared before Master Indira Chinebas. He was granted bail with surety in the sum of $250,000 and the next hearing has been set for January 12, 2026.
According to police, PC Charles, 38, was on duty at the guard room, on the compound of the Ministry of Rural Development, Kent House, Maraval, on September 11. He was in the company of two officers, with their firearms out of their holsters, when a loud explosion was heard. The victim was subsequently found with a gunshot wound to the left side of his mouth.
