YEARS after some ex-Caroni (1975) Ltd workers passed away without receiving their promised lands, leases issued by the Government were collected by their descendants yesterday.
The second lease distribution ceremony also saw tears of joy and relief from former Caroni Ltd workers in the Picton, Penal area, who have waited for 22 years for land for housing and agriculture that was promised when the former State-owned company was shut down in 2003.
With most ex-workers who were due for land now in their 70s, several said they were overjoyed at securing a legacy for their children and grandchildren.
