The High Court has ordered the release of Nikita Greene, mother of Police Constable Ryan Greene, but ruled that the 20-year-old officer should remain in police custody as investigations continue into the alleged unauthorised removal and transfer of government surveillance footage to Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed.
Justice Christel Lambert delivered the ruling on Thursday, October 29, finding that police had established reasonable grounds for Ryan Greene’s continued detention but failed to demonstrate a sufficient legal basis for keeping his mother in custody.
The ruling represents a significant development in the investigation, which has now implicated another police officer attached to the Guyana Police Force’s Command Centre.
