(Kaieteur News) – High Court Judge Justice Crystal Lambert on Wednesday, ordered the State to justify the continued detention of police constable, Ryan Greene and his mother, Nikita Greene, following an urgent Habeas Corpus application challenging their custody amid an expanding investigation into leaked government surveillance footage.
The legal intervention follows an application filed in the High Court of the Supreme Court of Judicature of Guyana (Fixed Date Application No. 2026-HC-DEM-CIV-FDA-1010) by attorney Darren Wade on behalf of Randy Greene, challenging the detention of his 20-year-old son and 39-year-old wife as unlawful, unconstitutional, and in breach of their fundamental rights to due process and liberty.
Justice Lambert treated the application with urgency under Civil Procedure Rules 2016, ordering the Attorney General’s Chambers to file a formal response and directing the State to produce both detainees in open court at the Victoria Law Courts. Justice Lambert specifically requested an explanation for why Greene’s mother remains in police custody, as well as the legal justification for her son’s continued detention.
