The Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion says it is aware of re­ports of a rat in­fes­ta­tion at El So­cor­ro South Gov­ern­ment Pri­ma­ry School and is en­gag­ing staff and the Na­tion­al Main­te­nance Train­ing and Se­cu­ri­ty Com­pa­ny Lim­it­ed to as­sess the sit­u­a­tion.

The min­istry re­spond­ed af­ter par­ents raised the is­sue dur­ing a small protest out­side the school’s Lootoo Street com­pound.

Four par­ents said they have re­port­ed the prob­lem to the school su­per­vi­sor and the ed­u­ca­tion dis­trict of­fice since Oc­to­ber last year. They point­ed to an emp­ty, over­grown lot next to the school, which they be­lieve is the source of the in­fes­ta­tion.
