A soldier was shot dead despite being armed when gunmen ambushed him outside a mini-mart at Edinburgh 500, Chaguanas, on Saturday night.

The victim was identified as 30-year-old Defence Force soldier Jaelani Garcia Williams of Victoria Drive East, Balmoral Park, Edinburgh.

Police said that around 9.30 p.m., Williams exited a mini-mart along La Clave Street and was about to enter the driver’s seat of his black SUV when another vehicle travelling south stopped alongside him.
