Jereem “The Dream” Richards defied the odds at the Japan National Stadium in Tokyo, yesterday, scorching the track in a national record time of 43.72 seconds to grab World Athletics Championship Men’s 400 metres silver.
Drawn in the difficult lane two after finishing third in his semi-final heat on Tuesday, Richards dug deep to claim the runner-up spot in emphatic fashion.
“I did my best to put the lane aside,” the Trinidad and Tobago track star told the Express. “My aunty said to not trust in chariots or horses; trust in the Lord. By chariots and horses, she meant lanes or my own strength; just commit it to God and watch Him work. That’s what I did! I never doubted that I could have gotten on the podium with that lane. I trusted in God.
