THE Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has confirmed that police officers have to adhere to specific procedures before they wreck a vehicle in Port of Spain.
One of the guidelines is officers have to make brief enquiries in the immediate vicinity in an effort to locate the driver and, if he/she is not found, the vehicle will be towed, the TTPS stated in a release yesterday.
According to the release, in the event that a vehicle has been picked up or is in the process of being picked by a wrecker, but the vehicle has not been removed from where it was parked and the driver or person in control of the vehicle appears and claims ownership, the officer shall release the vehicle to the driver or person claiming the vehicle; and issue a ticket for the offence committed or prosecute the driver or person in charge of the vehicle for non-ticketed offences committed.
