WITH the exception of six criminal offences, the Demerit Points System which applies penalties to offenders under the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act (Chapter 48:50) will soon be scrapped.
Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Eli Zakour yesterday made the announcement while at a post-Cabinet news conference at the Red House, Port of Spain.
It was a promise made by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, who upon her election announced plans to revoke the system, which came into effect in 2020.
