The National Insurance Board of Trinidad and Tobago (NIBTT) owes more than $50 million to a digital service provider for earlier phases of its “Empower” project aimed at improving service delivery and collections.
The disclosure came during Friday’s meeting of the Joint Select Committee on Finance and Legal Affairs, which is probing the NIBTT’s accessibility, responsiveness, and service delivery performance.
The Empower project has been financed through the agency’s collections and investment income, prompting concern from the JSC that the NIBTT is operating amid a shortfall between contributions and benefit payouts.
