The Na­tion­al Coun­cil of In­di­an Cul­ture (NCIC) has ap­point­ed Su­ru­jdeo Man­ga­roo HBM (Gold) as its new pres­i­dent, fol­low­ing the death of Sen­a­tor De­oroop Teemal on Au­gust 3.

In a press re­lease, the NCIC said Man­ga­roo, who has served the or­gan­i­sa­tion for near­ly 30 years, will build on Teemal’s work by ad­vanc­ing youth de­vel­op­ment and en­hanc­ing cul­tur­al aware­ness. His plans in­clude em­pow­er­ing young peo­ple to em­brace and cel­e­brate their her­itage to en­sure In­di­an tra­di­tions con­tin­ue to thrive.

Man­ga­roo is al­so Char­ter Pres­i­dent of the Ro­tary Club of Pe­nal, Chair­man of Cul­tur­al Af­fairs at the Hin­di Foun­da­tion of Trinidad and To­ba­go Inc., and Vice Pres­i­dent of the Glob­al In­di­an Or­ga­ni­za­tion (GIO) Caribbean Re­gion. From 2010 to 2015, he served as Chair­man of the Na­tion­al Com­mis­sion for Self Help Ltd.
