Police accused of misrepresenting, contradicting spy chief’s evidence in extradition trial

(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has been accused of misrepresenting and contradicting the sworn court testimony of Senior Superintendent Prem Narine, head of Special Branch, in a controversial public statement issued during ongoing extradition proceedings involving Nazar and Azruddin Mohamed.

Defence counsel representing Nazar and Azruddin Mohamed have issued a stern legal ultimatum to Police Commissioner Dr. Clifton Hicken, demanding the immediate public withdrawal of a media statement issued by the Guyana Police Force (GPF) regarding destroyed evidence in ongoing extradition committal proceedings. The dispute escalates as lawyers accuse the Police Force of publicly misrepresenting and contradicting the sworn testimony of its own lead witness while he remains under active cross-examination in court.

The legal confrontation follows an official public clarification distributed to the joint services media group at 4:57 p.m. by Mark Ramotar, Director of the GPF Corporate Communications Unit. Titled “GPF Clarifies Media Reports on Records in Mohameds’ Extradition Proceedings,” the police release sought to address coverage surrounding documents referenced during the committal proceedings before Chief Magistrate, Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
