The Opposition People's National Movement has expressed concern over the declaration Friday morning of a State of Emergency and reports of a coordinated criminal network.
"The Opposition notes with grave concern the declaration this morning of a National State of Emergency (SoE) in Trinidad and Tobago. We, like all law-abiding citizens, are deeply alarmed by the unacceptable levels of serious crime across our country, including murders, kidnappings, and violent gang activity. We recognise the tremendous pressure facing our national security agencies, and we reaffirm our full support for the men and women of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, the Defence Force and all institutions tasked with protecting the safety and security of our people," the release stated.
The release added that the Opposition acknowledges that the Commissioner of Police, through both a formal press release issued by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service's Corporate Communications Unit and a national news conference, outlined significant security intelligence.
