Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has said the declaration of a State of Emergency (SoE) was “absolutely necessary” given the intelligence provided by Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro.

In a brief response to the Express, the Prime Minister stated: “It was absolutely necessary given the intelligence reports and the recommendations of the TTPS.”

She also noted that the level of criminal activity plaguing the country, as well as the crime statistics, is widely known.
