(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Fire Service has defended its response to a reported fire at a residence in Wismar, explaining that firefighters attached to the Wismar Fire Station were responding to a separate grass fire in Bamia when a video alleging their absence from the station was recorded.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the Service addressed allegations circulating on social media following a Facebook post made on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, in which a woman raised concerns about the apparent absence of firefighters from the Wismar Fire Station while alleging that her daughter’s residence had been affected by a fire.

According to the Guyana Fire Service, the video was recorded at approximately 17:20 hrs, when firefighters from the Wismar station were actively engaged in emergency operations at a grass fire in Bamia. The Service disclosed that All-Terrain (AT) 6, along with its crew, had been deployed to tackle the blaze. It further explained that the reported fire at the woman’s daughter’s residence fell within the designated response area of the Mackenzie Fire Station. Consequently, Water Carrier #34 and its firefighting crew were dispatched to the location to extinguish the fire.
