Approximately three persons have been left homeless after a fire completely destroyed a house at Section C, Christenburg, Wismar, Linden, on Friday.
The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) said it received the report of the blaze at approximately 10:20h and immediately dispatched three firefighting vehicles, including two water tenders and one pickup, to the scene.
According to a senior fire officer, who spoke to Guyana Times, it was revealed that firefighters arrived within three minutes of receiving the report. However, by the time they reached the property, the entire roof and the north eastern wall of the flat wooden house had already collapsed. Firefighters immediately launched suppression operations and were able to bring the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby properties. Preliminary investigations indicate that three people have been left homeless as a result of the fire.
