LABOUR Minister Leroy Baptiste had announced that a retrenchment fund was being established.
Speaking at a UNC news conference in Chaguanas yesterday, he reported the Attorney General was currently drafting amendments for the Retrenchment and Severance Benefit Act (RSBA).
“It impacts workers in a very significant way. Government has taken a decision to check the gaps that have been exploited to the disadvantage of workers. Redundancy is deemed to be essentially surplus labour. An employer could have avoided it by any obligation to workers if they cry insolvency,” he explained.
