Guyana is now a utensil of U.S. imperialism

(Kaieteur News) – This year Guyana celebrates two anniversaries that ought to be considered together. We mark 60 years of Independence, but we also mark another 60th anniversary of Guyana’s admission to the United Nations on 20th September, 1966.

On that day, the newly independent country took its seat in the General Assembly after the Assembly adopted Resolution 2133 by acclamation. It was the beginning of Guyana’s formal participation in the great international debates of the post-colonial world. The occasion is worth revisiting because the language of Guyana’s first appearance at the United Nations offers an interesting contrast with the submissive foreign-policy posture of the PPP/C government.
