U.S. President Donald Trump said early Thursday that his administration has cancelled a previously anticipated second wave of military attacks on Venezuela, citing what he described as significant cooperation from Caracas, including the release of political prisoners.
In a social media post at 5:22 a.m. on January 9, Trump said Venezuela was freeing “large numbers of political prisoners” as a sign it was “seeking peace,” calling the move “very important and smart.”
Trump claimed the decision followed improving relations between the two countries, particularly in discussions surrounding the rebuilding of Venezuela’s oil and gas infrastructure.
