US President Donald Trump says the US will run Venezuela and tap its vast oil reserves to sell to other nations following a military strike on the capital city of Caracas, which led to the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife.
He made this disclosure at a news conference in Florida, hours after US forces executed a surgical strike in Caracas to extract Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, from a heavily fortified compound around 2 am.
No US troops were killed in the mission, Trump said. One helicopter was damaged by gunfire but managed to fly out safely.
