The Point Lisas De­sali­na­tion Plant has re­sumed op­er­a­tions ear­li­er than ex­pect­ed af­ter its an­nu­al main­te­nance shut­down.

Plant own­er and op­er­a­tor DE­SAL­COTT com­plet­ed the work this morn­ing, two days be­fore the orig­i­nal Au­gust 24 dead­line. Pro­duc­tion is now ramp­ing up and ex­pect­ed to reach the full ca­pac­i­ty of 40 mil­lion gal­lons per day by mid­night to­mor­row.

Ac­cord­ing to the Wa­ter and Sew­er­age Au­thor­i­ty (WASA), cus­tomers in parts of Cen­tral and South Trinidad should see ser­vice im­prove over the week­end, though it may take up to 48 hours for sys­tems to ful­ly sta­bilise.
