Linden Town Council proposes 50% cut in Kara Kara tolls

(Kaieteur News) – The ongoing row over tolls in Linden has taken a new turn, with the Government demanding greater financial accountability from the Linden Town Council (LTC), while the Council has proposed cutting the controversial toll charges by 50%.

According to a press release issued by the Department of Public Information (DPI) Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Priya Manickchand, Minister of Finance Dr. Ashni Singh, Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill and other senior government officials met with Linden Mayor Dominique Blair, Town Clerk Lenox Gasper, Treasurer Audrey Nelson and other representatives of the LTC as Government moves to address concerns over the cost of doing business in Linden and the Council’s financial operations.

According to the release, the meeting followed strong representations from Linden residents and members of the private sector, who have complained that toll charges are adding to the cost of conducting business in the town. A major issue emerging from the meeting was the state of the Council’s financial records, the DPI said.
