‘Let independent audit determine who is responsible for Linden Council’s financial woes’ - APNU

(Kaieteur News) – A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) on Friday called for an independent audit to determine who exactly is responsible for the financial woes of the Linden Town Council, following a joint statement issued in relation to the toll situation, which the party described as a “Government-Dominated Joint Statement”.

The party condemned the actions of Local Government and Regional Development Minister Priya Manickchand for revoking the toll imposed by the Linden Town Council for the use of the Kara Kara Road, saying she has no authority to do so. Subsequent to Linden Mayor Dominique Blair issuing a statement on the matter, the Council was invited to meet with President Irfaan Ali.

“The PNCR/APNU rejects the attempt by the PPP/C Government to use a so-called ‘Joint Statement’ with the Linden Town Council to create the false impression that the elected Council handles the administrative and financial deficiencies which have plagued the Council. The administrative matters are handled by the PPP-controlled Town Clerk. The document released by the Government is not a balanced joint statement. It is, in substance, a government-prepared political document designed to discredit the elected representatives of the people of Linden and to provide cover for the Government’s arbitrary interference in the affairs of the Linden Town Council,” Chairman of APNU Aubrey Norton said in his address to the media.
