The ConĀgress of the PeoĀple (COP) will conĀtest St Annās East and Port-of-Spain South in the upĀcomĀing genĀerĀal elecĀtion as part of a new coaliĀtion with the UnitĀed NaĀtionĀal ConĀgress (UNC).
The COP anĀnounced the move in a joint stateĀment with the UNC, deĀscribĀing it as a ābold and hisĀtoricā step toĀwards reĀclaimĀing seats long held by the PeoĀpleās NaĀtionĀal MoveĀment (PNM).
The coaliĀtion, which inĀcludes the ProĀgresĀsive EmĀpowĀerĀment ParĀty (PEP), the OilĀfields WorkĀersā Trade Union (OWĀTU), the PubĀlic SerĀvices AsĀsoĀciĀaĀtion (PSA), and the LOVE parĀty, aims to counter what it called the āDecade of DeĀstrucĀtion unĀder the PNM.ā
