Lifeguards would be stationed at designated beaches across Trinidad and Tobago during the long Carnival weekend.
This includes seven locations in Mayaro, where 17-year-old Gabriel Nelson drowned on Sunday. His body was found two days later.
Nelson, a student of St Stephen's College, was spending the day at the beach with relatives when he got into difficulties in chest-high water. He was described as a "commendation student with great promise".
