The state has agreed to resolve a lawsuit filed by a Freeman Road, St Augustine, man over his unlawful detention, weeks apart in 2019.
A settlement offer was presented to Daniel Samuel Riley’s mother. A consent order was approved by Justice Christopher Sieuchand on September 5 for judgment in favour of Riley’s estate and compensation.
Riley’s mother, substituted as the claimant in June 2024 after his death in April 2023, will receive the compensation. Riley was fatally shot by gunmen at his Freeman Road home while he slept. His pregnant girlfriend, 16, was also injured in the attack. She was shot in the stomach.
