Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has described the kidnapping of a Monos Island couple and the US$2.5 million ransom demand as “fishy”.
Derek Tardieu, 70, and his wife Claribel, 47, were kidnapped from their home at Monos Island off Trinidad’s west coast on Saturday night. Kidnappers are demanding US$2.5 million (TT$16.7 million) for their safe release.
The Prime Minister was asked about the incident and whether the country may be experiencing an upsurge in kidnappings as she made her way to the parliamentary sitting at the Red House in Port of Spain.
