A 33-year-old pris­on­er who was on re­mand for mur­der took his own life in a cell at the Arou­ca Max­i­mum Se­cu­ri­ty Prison on Fri­day af­ter­noon.

Po­lice said Dhan­raj Seuku­mar alias "Lallee" was in a cell at the T West Di­vi­sion of the prison at around 3.55 pm as prison of­fi­cers be­gan the process of "lock­ing down" the fa­cil­i­ties for the evening.

One in­mate alert­ed a prison of­fi­cer and up­on check­ing the cell, the guard found Seuku­mar un­re­spon­sive.
