THE wife of 32-year-old police officer Rafael Joseph said she was prepared to take legal action against the Prison Service if her family did not receive answers about his death while in custody.
Speaking with the Express yesterday, Makeda Joseph said she had instructed attorneys to write to the Commissioner of Prisons seeking information and access to her husband's body. She also said she had contacted Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles and was following up with the Ministry of Social Development's welfare division for assistance.
Joseph died on June 17, after he was found unresponsive at the Eastern Correctional Rehabilitation Centre (ECRC). Prison officials said he was taken to the Arima Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A post-mortem examination has not yet been done, according to Makeda, and the family has not been allowed to see his body since June 18.
