ENERGY Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal said yesterday an “error” that could have cost this country some $7 billion in revenue was discovered by a contractor in a deal sealed under former energy minister Stuart Young, and approved by the previous Cabinet.
Moonilal said the Government yesterday moved with haste and in the nick of time via a Cabinet note, to fix the mistake in the contract and earn Trinidad and Tobago over US$1 billion during the life of the contract.
Speaking at the post-Cabinet news conference at the Red House, Port of Spain, Moonilal said he has ordered a full investigation into the error. The minister said he also asked to be informed as to Young’s “direct participation” in the contract.
