For Christopher Ainsworth, football is more than a game. The 20-year-old Cavalier FC player declared that the sport is his future after being named the Pepsi Star Player at the inaugural Made4Goal Championship Showcase in Kingston last weekend.
Ainsworth earned the honour following an impressive performance for the Jamaica Premier League U-23 All-Stars, who defeated the High School U-19 All-Stars in front of international scouts at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex on Saturday.
Unlike traditional Most Valuable Player awards, the Pepsi Star Player Award recognised qualities beyond performance on the field, including leadership, sportsmanship, resilience and the player’s connection with supporters.
