The Rio Claro Fire station has been indefinitely shuttered and its staff relocated to the Mayaro Fire station as a result of infrastructural issues that have plagued the decades old building for years.
President of the Fire Services Association Keone Guy yesterday confirmed that the station had been closed after staff decided to refrain from duty on October 29, citing at least 14 safety concerns identified by the Occupational Health and Safety Agency (OSH) earlier and the injury of at least one civilian member of staff at the compound one week ago.
The report, shared with the Express, noted the presence of notable termite damage, electrical concerns, water intrusion in the flooring and some of the walls and insufficient lighting among other health and safety concerns.
