A fishing trip ended in tragedy on Friday after 46-year-old Ramdath Pana drowned off Pt. Galeota Road, Guayaguayare.
Police said Pana had gone to the beach with a friend, Lalchan Hardial, around midday to throw a fishing net. Hardial told investigators he walked about 600 feet into the water, leaving Pana on the shore. Minutes later, he could no longer see his friend and called out for him but got no response.
Pana’s body was later found face down and pulled to shore, but attempts to resuscitate him failed. Police said there were no signs of violence and a post-mortem will be done at the Eric Williams Medical Complex. Enquiries are continuing.
