THE Government’s proposed upgrade of the Borough of Chaguanas to city status has been welcomed by Mayor Faaiq Mohammed.
Mohammed yesterday dubbed Chaguanas “a city whose time has come”, stating that the conversation around city status has been ongoing for some time.
Residents and businesses have also welcomed plans announced at the weekend by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to pursue city status for Chaguanas via the new Municipal Corporations (Amendment) Bill, 2026, noting continued development in the area.
