During a series of operations last week, the Customs and Excise Division intercepted multiple shipments of illegal narcotics, including 38.998 kilogrammes of marijuana, more than half a milogramme of MDMA, and disturbingly, eight ampoules of Fentanyl, a highly potent synthetic opioid.
Fentanyl is a significant public health concern due to its extreme potency and high risk of overdose. Medical experts warn that as little as two milligrammes, roughly the weight of a few grains of salt, can be lethal for most people. Fentanyl is far stronger than other commonly abused opioids, including heroin and morphine, making even small quantities deadly if misused.
Several individuals connected to the seizures were arrested and have appeared before the Magistrates’ Court.
