The Form One units of Dieo Martin Central Secondary blasted to more wins when the Republic Bank Aquatics Sports Association of TT (ASATT) National Secondary Schools Water Polo League continued on the weekend.
Right at home in the Dieo Martin Community Pool on January 31, Diego Central’s male Form One team had a grand old time as they hammered Fatima College 23-6, with Keston Brisan (ten goals) and Andriel Williams (nine goals) leading the riot.
Meanwhile, Diego Central’s Form One girls were also in a rampant mood as they defeated Holy Name Convent Port of Spain 26-11. Amiyah Phillip and Ke-Anna Mitchell scored eight and six goals, respectively, for Diego Central, while three other players scored three or more goals. Both Ariya Bolai De Matas and Amilya Marshall scored five goals apiece for Holy Name.
Bishop Anstey High School Port of Spain and St Joseph’s Convent Port of Spain (SJCPoS) also got convincing Form One victories, with the latter carrying that momentum to the National Aquatic Centre, Couva, on February 1 to rack up wins in the under-16 and open categories.
In the open category, SJCPoS held off a spirited second-half fight from Bishop to hold on for an 8-6 victory. SJCPoS stormed out to a 6-1 lead by the half and took an 8-3 lead into the final quarter. Bishop rallied late on with goals from Techiya Bramble, Mya Dos Santos and star player Abiah Halls, but couldn’t quite do enough to pull off a comeback. Bishop had to play second fiddle again when the teams met in their under-16 clash, with a six-goal haul from Abella Mollenthiel powering SJCPoS to an 11-6 result.
Elsewhere, Fatima experienced mixed fortunes in Couva. They got by Queen’s Royal College comfortably in the open category, but split four matches across the under-14 and under-16 age groups. In the under-14 category, Benedict Metiviere helped himself to nine goals as Fatima mauled a combined team of Diego, Trinity College, and St Anthony’s College 23-2, before the “Saints” of St Mary’s College manufactured a 15-6 victory over the boys from Mucurapo Road. Adonija Howell, Nathan Roopchan, and Ephraim Yisrael all scored beaver-tricks to help St Mary’s to the big under-14 win.
In under-16 play, Fatima got their own back with a 12-8 result over St Mary’s, but the Royalians had their number and powered to an 18-8 triumph through impressive performances from Daniel Brathwaite (six goals) and Jamari Perry (four goals).
