HOURS after misbehaviour in public office charges against him were dismissed by a master of the High Court yesterday, Insp Mark Hernandez called for the reinstatement of officers from the disbanded Special Operations Response Team (SORT).
In 2021, Hernandez, then 46, was arrested at his home on April 14 and formally charged on April 19 by officers of the Professional Standards Bureau (PSB), following consultations with Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard.
He was charged with misbehaviour in public office in connection with the alleged treatment of Andrew Morris and Joel Balcon, two suspects detained during the investigation into the 2021 kidnapping and murder of Andrea Bharatt. Both men later died while in police custody.
