THE Ministry of Education is seeking to have a cultural transformation in schools, to create citizens different from those who behave negatively on social media.
So said Education Minister Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly while speaking during an awards ceremony at St Joseph's Convent (SJC) in San Fernando on Tuesday. 'We are speaking about a culture of non-violence, we are speaking about the values, attitudes, and behaviours that are progressive and that will allow our citizens to continue to develop Trinidad and Tobago. We are speaking about the culture that we want our young people to have when they leave the education system,' she said.
The minister added that while it is good to celebrate those who do very well, they are in the minority. 'The vast majority of our students are not in the ones that win scholarships. Between scholarships and bursaries, we award 600 students for one year but that's 600 out of more than 18,000.'
