THE publication of mugshots in the public domain by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is unlawful and unconstitutional, the Appeal Court has ruled.
The declaration was made yesterday in an appeal filed by the Office of the Attorney General against the decision of a High Court judge who had awarded a police officer $70,000 in damages after his mugshot was posted on social media.
A cross appeal was also filed by a second police officer, whose mugshot was also posted but was unsuccessful in his constitutional claim at the High Court.
