Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles accused the United National Congress (UNC) Government of worsening the financial pressures on households through job losses, non-renewal of employment contracts, higher taxes and increased utility costs.
Addressing a People’s National Movement (PNM) meeting at City Hall in Port of Spain on Friday, Beckles said people who visited her constituency office regularly complained about being unable to find jobs, while families struggled to meet their children’s educational needs.
“When I go to my constituency office on a weekly basis, that is the issue, people are not employed,” she said.
