Guyana’s President Dr Irfaan Ali has declared three days of national mourning for the victims of the MV Barima tragedy, as search and recovery operations intensified yesterday with 41 bodies recovered and 77 people rescued.
Tragedy struck on Saturday following the an incident in which the MV Barima, carrying an estimated 179 people, capsized after it may have been struck by a large wave while travelling from Georgetown to Port Kaituma, a small village in the Barima-Waini Administrative Region.
