Guyana President Promises Independent Investigation Into MV Barima Disaster

Guyana’s President Dr Irfaan Ali has promised a full and independent investigation into the MV Barima disaster, while stressing that the immediate focus remains on saving lives, supporting survivors and assisting grieving families.

The ferry issued a distress call late Saturday while en route to Port Kaituma.

The Government of Guyana confirmed on Monday that the death toll had risen to 10.
