Interim Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez, who was sworn in following the forced removal of President Nicolás Maduro, struck a defiant tone in a live national address on Saturday, openly rejecting U.S. assertions that Washington would work with her to govern the country.
Appearing on state television alongside senior military commanders and top government officials, Rodríguez projected unity and authority as she denounced what she described as an “unprecedented military aggression” by the United States. One by one, she introduced figures seated beside her as she asserted that Maduro remains Venezuela’s rightful president.
“There is only one president in this country, and his name is Nicolás Maduro Moros,” Rodríguez declared to applause, a statement that directly contradicted remarks made earlier by U.S. President Donald Trump.
