Newly sworn-in interim leader of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, has delivered mixed messages from Caracas, first calling for peace and dialogue with Washington and hours later denouncing what she called an illegitimate act of aggression against the homeland.
Rodriguez was sworn in by her brother, President of the National Assembly Jorge Rodriguez, yesterday after her elevation to acting President was approved by Venezuela’s highest courts on Saturday evening.
As she spoke during the swearing-in, Rodriguez, previously deemed cooperative by Trump but who appeared defiant of the US intervention in its aftermath, said she came to the Assembly pained by suffering inflicted by the “aggression” and referred to Maduro’s capture as a kidnapping.
