Chi­na’s new am­bas­sador to Trinidad and To­ba­go, Ren Hongyan, host­ed his first of­fi­cial event on Wednes­day, to com­mem­o­rate the 80th an­niver­sary of the vic­to­ry in the Chi­nese Peo­ple’s War of Re­sis­tance Against Japan­ese Ag­gres­sion and the World An­ti-Fas­cist War.

At a re­cep­tion at the Chi­nese Em­bassy in Mar­aval, Ren not­ed that dur­ing World War II, T&T played an im­por­tant role as an al­lied lo­gis­tics base and lat­er be­came “among the first Caribbean na­tions to achieve in­de­pen­dence in the post-war era.”
