Political Scientist Says Special Operations Bill Marks Next Step In Crime Fight

The Special Operations Bill, 2026, forms part of the Government’s broader push to confront crime, introducing measures aimed at disrupting criminal networks and enhancing public safety.

Political Scientist Dr Maukesh Basdeo, described the government’s introduction of the Bill as a significant step in tackling the country’s security concerns, saying it aims to enhance the State’s capacity to maintain law and order and protect citizens.

“It’s a signal that government intends to face the crime scourge head-on and this is not to say as an extension of the SOE but an initiative on the part of the administration to actually deal with it. We would have also seen a week and a half ago the government’s initiative to set up police posts in certain designated areas throughout Trinidad and Tobago.”
