(Kaieteur News) – The family of Gavin Kenard Douglas, who died following a violent encounter while in police custody at the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station, is demanding justice after a post-mortem examination revealed that he suffered horrific internal and external injuries, including severe head trauma and ruptured intestines.
Speaking with Kaieteur News, Douglas’ sister, Reana Douglas, confirmed that the autopsy was performed by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh and revealed extensive injuries to her brother’s body.
The official Government of Guyana Registration of Death document lists the cause of death as cerebral haemorrhage due to blunt trauma to the head, with blunt trauma to the abdomen recorded as another significant condition contributing to his death. “The PM said that he got a blunt trauma to the belly, because the intestines burst up, when they opened he, intestines burst up and he get a blunt trauma to the head… so the blunt trauma to his head is what killed he,” Douglas recounted. “They tasered and beat him.”
