In the aftermath of a decision to suspend Carnival fetes at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, San Fernando Mayor Robert Parris said the city corporation is open to hosting events at its own facilities.
Spaces such as Skinner Park in San Fernando as well as the San Fernando Hill, which have historically hosted Carnival-related events and fetes, currently fall under the San Fernando City Corporation’s purview.
Following the announcement of the new Brian Lara Cricket Academy policy earlier this week, Parris told the Express yesterday that it is being seen as a way to address budgeting shortfalls within the city corporation while promoting southern Carnival activities in San Fernando.
