Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says she had no choice but to advise the President to declare another state of emergency (SoE) in the country.
The Prime Minister, in response to questions from the Express, echoed the position explained by the Attorney General earlier yesterday—that the decision was triggered based on police intelligence that mass shootings and violence were set to continue, and credible threats had been made against the police and prison officers.
Since the previous SoE ended on January 31, there have been 31 murders recorded. Several incidents were double homicides.
