Mohamed alleges political hand behind review of Justice Persaud’s U.S. visa

Kaieteur News – Guyanese businessman Nazar Mohamed issued a public statement on Sunday asserting that the ongoing review of High Court Judge Gino Persaud’s United States visa is the result of direct political influence originating at the highest levels of the Guyanese government.

Kaieteur News has confirmed that Persaud’s visa is under review. However, no reason has been given. In a detailed statement, Mohamed linked the move against Justice Persaud to a wider, two-year political campaign directed against his family following his son Azruddin Mohamed’s entry into politics and subsequent election as Leader of the Opposition.

According to Mohamed, his family has faced an unprecedented “sustained mobilisation of political power, State resources, media platforms and public officials” over the past two years. He claimed this campaign intensified during the 2025 election season when top People’s Progressive Party (PPP) officials directly targeted his son. Addressing the situation involving Justice Persaud, Mohamed stressed that neither he nor his son has ever had a personal, professional, or commercial relationship with the jurist. “Our only connection is that matters involving our family came before him as a judge of the High Court,” Mohamed stated.
